Karwendel Camping: Where electrical boxes tell stories and mountain air tickles the nose

Discover camping paradise right on the mountain. With modern sanitary facilities, space for campers and holiday apartments, Camping Karwendel is a dream for every nature lover. Just a stone's throw from Maurach, ski lifts and Lake Achensee. One small drawback? The shower time could be a bit longer!

The location of this campsite is absolutely fantastic. The village of Maurach, ski lifts and Lake Achensee are all within walking distance, and the site is surrounded by an impressive mountain panorama.

When we arrived in Maurach and drove to our campsite, we first had to pass the recycling center – a bit odd. Fortunately, this wasn't a sign of the campsite's quality. It's located right on the hillside and offers holiday apartments, gravel pitches for campers, a children's playground, and a restaurant. We had our pick of pitches and chose one right in the middle of things. When we went to connect the electricity, the electrical box seemed pretty battered to me – although the connections were still protected from the worst of the rain. The door of the electrical box was only hanging on by the grounding wire – quite an experience!

The facilities at Camping Karwendel are excellent. The sanitary facilities are super modern and clean, offering space for physical activity (which we didn't use), rooms for ski equipment, and a small laundromat with washing machines and dryers. There's also a really cool machine for emptying chemical toilets. One minor drawback, however, is the duration of the shower spray while you're in the shower – somewhere between 10 and 15 seconds before you have to press the button again…

Services provided for approximately €76 and two nights' accommodation.

A highly recommended campsite for anyone wanting to camp near Lake Achensee and the winter sports area. The campsite is situated in a stunning setting and has superb modern sanitary facilities. The value for money is also excellent.
