Hochsauerland motorhome park in Winterberg
Campsite in Winterberg: affordable and central, but not quite perfect. In November 2023, we visited a campsite in Winterberg. The pitch isn't exactly cheap for one night, but it is centrally located. The site is particularly suitable for winter sports enthusiasts, but a bit pricey for a simple overnight stay (without using the winter sports facilities).
We came across this campsite in November 2023 as an alternative to a pitch in Willingen and were very happy that we could check in until 6 pm. The proximity to Winterberg town center was also a big plus, allowing us to easily walk there in the evenings and enjoy a beer together.
The campsite entrance is located in a kind of industrial area and in close proximity to several ski lifts. Towards the back, the campsite appears to extend further into nature, but the pitches for motorhomes are situated in a very "urban" location.
The campsite consists of three different sections, one of which is explicitly designated as a pitch. We booked this pitch for one night. The receptionist was very friendly and gave us the barrier code and a description of our pitch, so we were able to access it fairly quickly after checking in.

Advantages
- Ski lifts in the immediate vicinity
- Very clean and modern sanitary facilities
- Winterberg city center reachable within 10 minutes
- Pitches on the campsite are gravelled; very little mud when it rains.
Disadvantages
- It's quite expensive for an overnight stay, especially if you don't need the Sauerland Card and only want to go hiking the next day.
- Entrance/reception easily missed (in the dark)
Recommendation
- A typical hotspot for ski and winter sports enthusiasts looking for accommodation close to the ski lift.
- Not necessarily suitable for a simple overnight stay (without using local amenities)
Conclusion
The sanitary facilities were absolutely spotless and top-notch. However, we probably wouldn't come back again, as the price for one night is quite high if you're really just looking for a place to sleep. As visitors to the Sauerland region, we only wanted to do some hiking, so the amenities and the proximity to the ski lifts weren't important to us.
