We almost – but only almost – got lost. From the idyllic holiday farm on Lake Hennesee, we continued on to the toboggan run in Bruchhausen , where we finally wanted to experience some real "action" again.
Toboggan run memories and new expectations
The last time I was on a summer toboggan run was also in the Sauerland region – more precisely in Winterberg. Back then it was cold, slightly rainy, and the track was right next to the town and the ski slope. This one is completely different: The Bruchhausen summer toboggan run is secluded – practically in the middle of nowhere. When we arrived in September, the restaurant was already closed. This made the location feel even more isolated, almost like a hidden gem at the end of the world.
Spoiler alert: I personally think the mountain toboggan run in the Sauerland region is better.
Quickly grab a ticket, then hop on the sleds!
It's not very busy today. We quickly buy our tickets and hop straight onto the sleds. Everyone gets their own – after all, we want to set our own pace! We get a short briefing, and then we're off.
Tip: Definitely plan two runs! The first run is often a bit tentative – at least it is for me. By the second time, you'll know the route a little better and feel more confident.
Minor camera mishap, great joy on the route
Of course, I had the brilliant idea of attaching my action camera to the sled – only to discover that the battery was dead. Annoying! Luckily, I still managed to get a few shots with my phone.
The trail initially climbs uphill, alongside tall trees. The sun breaks through the trunks, bathing everything in an almost fairytale-like light. Reaching the top, you pause briefly – lush greenery, ferns, and forest stretch as far as the eye can see on both sides. This idyllic scene is short-lived, however, as the trail then descends rapidly.
It rattles and roars. Left turn, then right, sometimes faster, sometimes slower – but always with a broad grin on my face. A truly memorable experience , absolutely worth it.
Conclusion: Affordable, close to nature and full of fun
At just €3.60 per ride, this attraction is more than fairly priced. And for those who still fancy some nature afterwards: several hiking trails start from here. The area around Bruchhausen is beautiful – green, peaceful, and ideal for a short break away from the hustle and bustle.
