We reserved a table for four adults and a toddler at GH Attikos. From Athens city center, we took a taxi to the restaurant and got out right at the parking lot. Conveniently, it's also a short walk to the Acropolis – and that's precisely one of the reasons we chose this restaurant. The terrace is supposed to offer a breathtaking view of the ancient monument – and it certainly does.

On the rooftop terrace above the rooftops of Athens

A small elevator takes us upstairs – and suddenly we're standing on a light-flooded rooftop terrace. The panoramic view stretches across the city, an adjacent forest, and of course to the Acropolis, which seems almost within reach. Since we're there early in the evening, we can choose our own spot and end up right at the edge of the terrace – with an uninterrupted view of Athens' iconic landmark.

Child-friendly and welcoming

The staff greeted us exceptionally warmly – and were very child-friendly. We quickly received a high chair, and Eleni was delighted with the colored pencils, which kept her wonderfully occupied. It was already clear: the people here are particularly warm towards children and made you feel truly welcome. That felt wonderful!

Culinary delights that surprise

We start with a glass of wine and a cold beer before the appetizers are served. There's fresh bread with olive oil, feta with figs, and—somewhat unexpectedly for me—a plate of seasoned calamari rings garnished with fine strips of bell pepper. Initially, I'm skeptical because, while I enjoy trying new things, I often prefer to stick to familiar categories (a new burger? Sure. But calamari? Tricky.).

But this appetizer proved me wrong: perfectly seasoned, tender, not slimy – simply delicious. I resolve to be more open to new things in the future. All the appetizers were fresh, high-quality, and definitely whetted my appetite for more.

Main courses that make you happy

Eleni has spaghetti, Laura and Stella try the moussaka, Niko opts for lamb with baby potatoes – and I have grilled burger patties with potatoes and barbecue sauce. All the dishes come fresh from the kitchen, are beautifully presented, and taste delicious. Eleni can't quite finish her portion – much to the delight of the others. That's what family meals are all about: sharing, enjoying, experiencing.

An evening filled with enjoyment and gratitude

What remains is the feeling of having hit the jackpot. Authentic Greek cuisine, a warm and welcoming team, and that unbeatable view – for us, GH Attikos is the perfect place for special occasions. And because it was Laura's birthday, Stella and I were even invited – a big thank you again!

An experience that will last – and not just because of the view.
