It's Sunday and I'm looking for something relaxing to do outdoors in this lovely summer weather. I've already been to the Externsteine rock formation and the Hermann Monument recently, so I decide on the eagle sanctuary in Berlebeck.

Birds of prey enthusiasts, photography buffs, and culture lovers will all find something to enjoy at the eagle sanctuary. As a passionate photographer, I find the eagle sanctuary in Berlebeck to be a fantastic place to get up close to these majestic animals.

For around €8.50 you can theoretically stay here all day – I spent about half a day here – I arrived right on time, of course, when the first airshow ended, so I had to wait for the last of the two airshows.

I naturally used this time to get as close as possible to the eagles and other birds. My photographic highlight: I was able to film a video of a bald eagle, which is truly breathtaking (a little self-praise is surely allowed). Thanks to the wonderful design and the many plants, hedges, and trees, you even have a really great backdrop for taking photos or videos – it almost feels like being out in nature.

The park itself is quite charming, so you can see pretty much everything in an hour – which is absolutely worth it.

The highlight of the day, however, was definitely the flight show, which I was lucky enough to attend. The "ranger" gave a fantastic presentation of the birds' flying abilities, providing fascinating information about each individual animal soaring through the air. At times, these kings of the skies even landed on the heads of the visitors or raced along the aisles.

During the visit and the fantastic show, you realize just how large and elegant these animals can be. And above all, what special abilities they possess and how they differ from one another.

The fact that a visit to the Berlebeck Eagle Sanctuary is worthwhile for all age groups was clearly demonstrated during the flight shows, as families, couples, friends and interested individuals were all present.

Those who are not only interested in the animals on site, but also want to read a little about the history of the place, can do just that, as it is also lovingly presented and can be seen at the aviaries.
