Hunau Camping Fam. Stratmann – Campsite in the Sauerland region

We stayed at the Stratmann family's campsite in the Sauerland region during the winter and had a wonderful time. Despite the snow and cold, we were able to enjoy a beautiful hike and the natural surroundings. The campsite was very well-equipped, clean, and the owners were very trustworthy. We highly recommend this campsite if you need a break from everyday life.

A week before our departure for the Stratmann family's campsite in the Sauerland region, very close to Schmallenberg, we called to reserve a spot. Right away, they asked if we had winter tires, which we unfortunately had to answer no to. We agreed that we would call again two days before our arrival to check the weather. In the meantime, we bought some snow chains for our camper as a precaution.

On the Thursday before our stay, we called the campsite again, and they even remembered us – very nice! They assured us that with snow chains and all-weather tires, there shouldn't be any problems – so we had a date! On Saturday morning, we drove from Bad Meinberg to the campsite, a journey of about an hour and a half. It had snowed a little, but everything was still fine at the campsite. The reception was incredibly friendly and personal. We got a great spot and were able to connect to the electricity right away. I especially appreciated the great trust they placed in us, as we took care of both check-in and check-out on our departure day. We were also able to report how many shower tokens we had used. I really like this trust and the personal touch.

The campsite itself was very good, the sanitary facilities were clean, and there were washing machines and a dishwashing area – everything was great! We had chosen this campsite because it was an ideal starting point for hikes in the surrounding forests.

As we started our hike on Saturday afternoon, it promptly began to snow – perfect for a winter hike! However, I also had in the back of my mind that we would have to drive back up the curve to the exit the next morning – and I wasn't so sure how well or badly we would manage that if it continued to snow the whole time, which it did.

The night was good, and so was the morning. Breakfast in the camper, a quick check-out at reception, and we were ready to go. During breakfast, we kept seeing a few visitors driving their SUVs up the bend. Some of them were even sliding around. With snow chains on the camper (for the first time, by the way), the bend was no problem.
