A stormy weekend in Zandvoort

The three of us are spending a stormy weekend in the Netherlands, about 50 meters from the beach. Our destination: the "Camping am Dünenrand" campsite in Zandvoort.

A curious arrival with a police escort.

Right at the start, we had an unexpected encounter with the Dutch police. Thanks to Google Maps, we accidentally ended up in the bus lane – a clear violation, as a sign (which we had missed) informed us. The officers remained friendly, and we heard nothing further about the matter. Our tip: Keep your eyes peeled on the road – especially abroad!

Location, size and first impression

The campsite is spacious and located right next to the Zandvoort race track – perfect for motorsport fans. The beach is just a few minutes' walk away, and the dunes are beautiful.

Free seating with little surprises

There are no designated pitches, which has its advantages and disadvantages. We enjoy two different pitches – some with direct access to the sanitary facilities. It can get quite crowded here, especially on weekends.

Sanitary facilities and registration

Check-in is straightforward – even after official opening hours. At reception, we receive prepaid tokens for the showers and a basic briefing on choosing a pitch. The gravel surfaces make maneuvering easy. The sanitary facilities are clean, well-designed, and equipped with pleasantly warm water and good pressure.

A walk into town and an encounter with animals

Zandvoort is about a 30-minute walk away – a lovely stroll along the coast in dry weather. A highlight in the evening: a friendly fox appears near the dimly lit washing-up areas – curious, but not intrusive.

Wind, sleep, and an unexpected laugh

On the second night, the wind whistled strongly across the campsite. We were worried about my wife's sister, who was sleeping upstairs in the camper – but in the morning she surprised us: she had simply slept through the night. A heartwarming moment that rounded off our weekend perfectly.

Conclusion

"Camping am Dünenrand" impresses with its proximity to the beach, uncomplicated registration, and clean sanitary facilities. The free choice of pitch ensures flexibility, the wind adds adventure – and little surprises like a fox create special moments.
