It's Sunday, and we're setting off at 9:00 am for the Sauerland region, or more precisely, for the Aabach Dam in Wünnenberg, to go for a hike including breakfast.

Around 10:00 a.m., we arrive at a small parking lot quite close to the wildlife enclosure. Here, the first little highlight of the hike awaits us – curious goats and red deer can be observed almost at close range. After only about five minutes of walking, we spend some time standing still, which gives us the feeling that we will be out on this trail for quite a while.

Once we manage to tear ourselves away from the animals, we continue on our way to the Aabach Dam. We walk on very well-maintained gravel paths, so none of us break a sweat. It's a very easy route, so we make good time. After about an hour and a half, we decide to have breakfast at a small hut on the Upland Trail. We had hoped to get a view of the Aabach Reservoir from this spot, but this hope is obscured by dense vegetation. So, we're left with just a delicious breakfast overlooking the forest.

Before continuing towards the Aabach Dam and a view of the lake, I fly my drone one last time to get a bird's-eye view. This is where the most exciting part of the route happens: the drone flies upwards into a tree, goes into a spin, and then hurtles back down at high speed, hitting the ground before immediately rising again. It doesn't look quite so spectacular on the smartphone controls, though, and thankfully the drone survived this little ordeal almost unscathed. Let's see what other adventures this drone will have to endure…

We continue along the Upland Trail towards the Aabach Dam and gaze at the lake – a drinking water reservoir. We also notice that this lake is very different from others, because apart from hikers and athletes on the trails, we don't see anyone swimming, in boats, or engaged in any other activities in the water – because it's simply forbidden. Then our route holds a small surprise for us, because as we move away from the Aabach Dam, we can stop at a small ice cream truck and enjoy a delicious ice cream. The truck reminds us of the ice cream trucks from our childhood, when they used to regularly drive through the neighborhood.

The rest of the way is very peaceful; we see a few more cheerful cows with calves and are soon back at the car. The 11 km route took us about 3 hours.
