Natural pools and an abandoned hotel in Lanzarote, the “Naturales Charcones”

If it's your first time traveling to Lanzarote and you don't venture beyond your accommodation, I'm sure you can have a very relaxing time. The sun is wonderful and the beaches are fantastic. However, if you get in your car and explore the island on your own, you'll discover its impressive…

We drove about 45 minutes from Porto del Carmen to Playa Blanca to have breakfast and then visit some natural pools right by the sea.
Our research told us we absolutely had to be there at low tide, which was around 11:00 am that day, to admire the "Naturales Charcones" in all their glory.

By car, you can only get within about 3 kilometers of the location, meaning the rest is on foot. With a 4x4 vehicle, you can get within a few meters of the pools. Along the way, you'll also see a hotel that was abandoned during construction – it stands by the sea like the skeleton of a dead animal.
After about a 30-minute walk, you'll see small fish, sea urchins, crabs, and many other small creatures that make their home in the natural pools. You could easily spend the whole day here – whether cooling off in the larger pools, observing the wildlife, or watching the surf.

Because of the challenging journey there, it's not too crowded. These are the "Piscinas Naturales Charcones" near Playa Blanca.
