Luhbachweg – Hiking in Kalletal
The “Luhbachweg” in Kalletal is about 9 kilometers long – for all curious people, this path offers some views, forests and corners that are really worth seeing.
Our little excursion to Kalletal (a good 30 minutes from our home) begins quite leisurely in the late morning around 10:00 a.m. Arriving in Kalletal, or more precisely in the small village of Langenholzhausen, we initially have a few minor difficulties finding a parking spot at the intended starting point of the route. Finally, we opt for a church parking lot, put on our light gear, and set off. After about 300 meters on the trail, we realize we could have parked on the main road – perhaps next time.
The route first takes us along the L961 and then through some fields – already offering us a great view of the village and the surrounding landscape. Especially at this time of year, when some flowers are already blooming, the rapeseed is almost in full bloom, and the grain fields show young plants, the hike through the fields is truly enjoyable.
When we reach the edge of the forest after about 2 km, we realize once again that we have chosen the perfect weather, the perfect day and the perfect place for a relaxing Saturday hike.
The mystical Teutoburg Forest is simply perfect for hiking.
The forest through which we walk for the next 2-3 km reveals a wonderfully mystical side, as the ground is covered with young and vigorous-looking plants, the trees block a considerable amount of light, and in this part of the Teutoburg Forest, they seem to be competing to grow at an astonishing rate. This natural state is underscored by the chirping of the forest's various bird species.
We use the fields to take some nice photos at the meetings and are happy that we stay dry despite the overcast sky – even a great, dramatic background for the photos.
Having arrived at the Luhbach stream, we try to spot a few more of the smaller forest inhabitants, but unfortunately we have little luck this time, so we decide to continue walking along the stream until we reach the L961 again.
So far, this hike has been very impressive, as we rarely experience such a variety of beautiful sections. We only have to spend the next 500 meters on the L961, which, with its (admittedly only moderate) traffic, is somewhat unpleasant. However, this short stretch is quickly forgotten as we immerse ourselves once again in the beautiful forest landscape.
After a total of 7 km on the trail, we can easily cover the remaining 1-2 km on paved paths. During this leg, we pass a field of opium poppies that haven't yet bloomed, which will likely prompt us to walk this short stretch, or part of it, again in a few weeks or days.
If you want to hike the same route we took, you can view the AllTrails tour here or download the GPX file directly and insert it into your hiking program.
